Who's all behind theater of the oppressed?
Augusto boal
Boal was born in Rio de Janeiro as the son of José Augusto Boal (a Portuguese baker) and Albertina Pinto (a housewife). As an undergraduate, Boal got a degree in Chemical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Urca. He liked theatre at an early age, making skits for family members along with his three brothers, but he did not become involved in the theatre scene until after completing his masters degree. After graduating from the UFRJ, Boal went to New York in 1952, where he studied at the School of Dramatic Arts at Columbia University while also getting his masters degree in Chemical Engineering.
Gassner his teacher in college, introduced Boal to the ways of both Bertolt Brecht and Constantin Stanislavski. In 1955 Boal brought to the stage 2 plays he made himself The Horse and the Saint and The House Across the Street. In 1956, a little after graduating, Boal was asked to work with the Arena Theatre in São Paulo, southeast Brazil. Boal was in charge of directing plays along with other people like as José Renato, who was also the founder of the Areana Theatre. There he was experimenting with new forms of theatre never before seen in Brazil, such as Stanislavski's 'system' for actors, with which he became familiar during his time at Columbia and when involved with the Actors Studio in New York. Boal got these methods from social conditions in Brazil. He is important to the theater of the oppressed because he started it.

Pualo Freire
Pualo Freire was born on September 19, 1921 in Recife, Brazil. Freire was no stranger to poverty; he grew up during the Great Depression of the 1930's. In 1931, his family was forced to move to a less expensive city and in 1933, his father died. He ended up four grades behind in school, and spent his days playing football with other poor children. Freire's experiences growing up poor eventually shaped his concerns for the poor and would help to construct his educational viewpoint inspiring the theater of the oppressed.
Freire inspired Boal's idea for Theater of the Oppressed because of his popular education method he developed. Freire believed that to solve conflict in communities and to get rid of poverty, people have to see the situation lived by the participants, analyze the root causes of the situation, including both internal and external sources of oppression, explore group solutions to these problems, and to act to change the situation following the precepts of social justice. This very idea specifically inspired Boal to create"Forum Theater", where audience members interrupt a problem going on between actors on stage, replace them and change the situation for the better. Because of his inspiration, and idea to solve conflicts all over the world, Freire is referenced as the honorary father of The Theater of the Oppressed.
